Letter from the Rector – September 2013

This month, in my letter, I would like to say thank you. On the 15th of June, on a Saturday afternoon when the showers pursued each other across the midsummer sky, a lot of us met together at St Mary’s in Cleobury, offered the Eucharist seeking the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and then went on, as planned, to have a party on the Glebe Field between the Rectory and the Church. A large number of people had worked hard to make both events possible, and to them thanks are due. For the day I wore a new cassock which had been given to me out of your generosity, and again out of your generosity, a collection was taken on behalf of the St Mary’s Youth Project, and for those things too thanks are due. Letter from the Bishop – September 2013

The leaves are falling! The seasons change as faithfully as ever. And that is a good reflection for someone who is shortly to retire (or, as I prefer to say, change gear). Change is normal. Cardinal Newman’s saying is well known: “To live is to change. To be perfect is to have changed often.”

We are all a “work in progress”. We all need to change. And that is the Creator God’s work in us, in the power of His Spirit. (more…)
